1. Privacy Policy Overview
SoftQuill Labs ("we", "us", or "our") develops Rise: Alarm Clock & Missions ("Rise"), an Android alarm clock that asks you to complete a mission before the alarm stops. Rise works without an account, and your alarms, settings and streaks are stored on your device.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
Rise stores the following in its private app storage (Android Room database and Jetpack DataStore). This data is not sent to us:
- Alarms: times, repeat days, labels, ringtone choice, snooze settings, mission type and difficulty.
- Streaks and history: which alarms you completed and when you woke up, used for streak statistics, the "Your mornings" screen and share cards.
- Weather town (optional): the town you type for the weather line, its rounded coordinates and the latest forecast.
- Reference photo (Photo mission only): a picture you take of an object in another room. It is saved in the app's private storage, used on-device to check your wake-up photo, and removed when you delete the alarm or uninstall Rise.
- Preferences: theme, onboarding answers, sound and voice settings, and whether Rise Pro is unlocked.
3. Permissions and Device Features

4. Analytics and Crash Reporting (Firebase)
Rise uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to find bugs and understand which features are used.
- What is collected: crash stack traces, device model, Android version, app version, anonymous app-instance identifiers and basic usage events such as screens opened.
- What is not collected: your alarm labels, photos, names, email address, contacts, your weather town or your location. We do not attach personal identifiers to these reports.
- Processing: data is processed by Google under its terms. See the Firebase privacy information and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Retention: kept for the period set in our Firebase project (up to 14 months).
5. Advertising
Rise does not contain advertising and does not use an advertising network.
6. In-App Purchases (Rise Pro)
Rise offers an optional subscription and a lifetime purchase ("Rise Pro") that unlock additional missions, mission chains, the wake-up check, all sleep sounds, weather in the briefing, wake-up stats and streak card themes. Payments are processed entirely by Google Play Billing. SoftQuill Labs never receives your card details or billing address. Rise stores only a local flag showing whether Pro is active.
7. Voice Briefing, Weather and Sounds
The optional morning voice briefing uses your device's built-in Android text-to-speech engine. Wind-down sounds and alarm tones are generated or played on your device. These features do not send data to us.
Weather (optional, Rise Pro). Rise never asks for your location. If you type a town in Settings, Android's built-in geocoder turns it into coordinates (on most phones this lookup is handled by Google). Rise rounds them to about 1 km and sends only those rounded coordinates to the MET Norway weather API when the morning screen opens, at most once every 30 minutes. Weather data is provided by MET Norway under CC BY 4.0. You can remove the town at any time in Settings.
8. Backup
Rise allows Android Auto Backup, so if you have device backup turned on, the operating system may include Rise's database and settings in your Google backup. This is controlled by your Android and Google settings, not by us.

10. Data Security, Retention and Deletion
Your alarm data stays in Android's private app sandbox. You can delete any alarm in the app, clear everything under Settings > Apps > Rise > Storage > Clear Storage, or uninstall Rise to remove all local data. To ask about analytics or crash data tied to your device, email us and we will help where possible. Network traffic to Firebase, Google Play and MET Norway uses HTTPS/TLS.
11. Children's Privacy
Rise is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in applicable European jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when Rise changes or when the law requires it. The revised policy will be posted on this page with a new "Last Updated" date.
